What makes an earring oxidised

An oxidised earring is darkened on purpose: the recesses of the design stay black and the raised detail shines, so carving, filigree, ghungroos and stone settings stand out. Ours are German silver, finished with that antique look, which is why they cost a few hundred rupees rather than a few thousand.

Which style to pick

  • Jhumkas: the bell earring. Small ones for every day, wider ones for festivals, weddings and garba.
  • Chandbalis: the crescent moon shape, for silk sarees and festive kurtas.
  • Studs and tops: close to the ear, for the office and daily wear.
  • Drops and danglers: a little movement without getting in the way.
  • Long earrings: one pair carries a plain kurta or saree on its own, so you can skip the necklace.

Oxidised earrings suit cotton, khadi, handloom, mirror work and kurtas, and look just as right with jeans. Not sure which shape suits you? Our earring styles guide explains each one, and oxidised or gold-tone? compares the finishes. For the festival season, see earrings for Navratri and garba.

Questions

Are oxidised earrings real silver?
No. Our oxidised earrings are German silver, an alloy of copper, nickel and zinc with no silver in it, finished with a darkened, antique look.

Are they safe for sensitive ears?
German silver contains nickel, so these earrings are not hypoallergenic. If nickel usually bothers your ears, start with a stud, wear it for a few hours first, and ask us on WhatsApp about a specific pair.

How do I keep the black finish looking good?
Keep them away from water, perfume and lotion, wipe them with a soft dry cloth after wearing, and store each pair on its own. Never put them through a silver dip: it strips the dark finish. More on our care page.

What if a pair arrives damaged?
We exchange a piece that arrives damaged or wrong within 10 days of delivery, with an unboxing video. Returns & Exchange

How long does delivery take?
Orders are dispatched from Satara within 2 to 3 working days and usually arrive 1 to 5 working days later in Maharashtra and 4 to 6 elsewhere in India. Shipping is free on orders paid online.
