How to wear a saree pin

A saree pin sits on the shoulder where the pallu falls, so it does two jobs: it keeps the pleats of the pallu together and it shows off a little sparkle. Gather the pallu pleats, place them on your shoulder, and pin through the pleats and the blouse fabric underneath so the weight sits on both. On a heavy silk the pin takes the strain off a plain safety pin; on georgette and chiffon it stops the pallu sliding off through the day.

Wear it as a brooch

Every pin here is also a brooch. Wear one on the collar or yoke of a kurta, on a blazer or jacket lapel, to close a shawl or stole, or to hold a dupatta in place at the shoulder. A pearl pin dresses up a plain office kurta; a big crystal one turns a simple jacket into a festive outfit. It also makes an easy gift, with no size to get right.

Is a saree pin the same as a brooch?
Yes. Saree pin, saree brooch and pallu pin are names for the same thing, and every pin here can be worn as a brooch on a kurta, blazer, shawl or dupatta.

Will a saree pin damage a silk saree?
Pin through the pleats rather than a single thin layer, and take the pin out gently along the same line. Avoid pinning the same spot on a delicate silk every time.

Where can I wear a brooch besides a saree?
On a kurta collar or yoke, a blazer or jacket lapel, a shawl or stole, or a dupatta at the shoulder.

How do I care for a saree pin?
Keep it away from water, perfume and lotion, wipe it with a soft dry cloth after wearing, and store it on its own so the stones don't scratch. More on our care page.
